The History of Downtown San Diego CA Real Estate Spans More Than 12,000 Years:
The first people who lived near what is now the downtown San Diego real estate market included a group of Kumeyaay Indians known as the Sycuan Clan who settled in the area at least 12,000 years ago. They are well-known for using innovative farming and hunting techniques that were used for more than 10,000 years.
The first American settlers arrived in the downtown San Diego area in 1850. They included William Heath Davis who constructed the first downtown San Diego CA homes near Market Street. Many of these homes were purchased in 1867 by Alonzo Horton.
Horton converted many downtown San Diego properties during the 1870s into a thriving wharf that was located near what is now the Gaslamp Quarter
. The area near the wharf became a popular hangout during the first half of the 20th century for United States Navy personnel stationed near the area.
The demand for downtown San Diego homes for sale was revitalized during the 1970s after residents worked together with the San Diego City Council to develop a restoration plan for the area's buildings and infrastructure. These efforts paid off during the 1990s when many new downtown San Diego home buyers moved into the area.
Real Estate in downtown San Diego is now located in a neighborhood that offers residents a friendly atmosphere, a vibrant lifestyle and many career options. These benefits make homes for sale in downtown San Diego a wonderful value for anyone who relocates to San Diego.
